The fight to eliminate a growing rat infestation in downtown Huntington has entered its second week.
Over the weekend, News 12 reached out to Huntington Town officials after viewers sent videos showing dozens of massive rodents running around near West Carver Street and New York Avenue.
It's an area surrounded by restaurants and businesses and not far from homes.
Huntington Town Supervisor Ed Smyth said in a statement over the weekend that crews were focused on the Gunderman building and restaurants facing New York Avenue.
A Suffolk County spokesperson said this morning that the county "routinely investigates these types of situations and a course of action will be determined in conjunction with the town" but did not offer specifics or elaborate on details when asked.
News 12 reached back out to the Suffolk County Health Department again this morning after not hearing back all weekend.
Huntington officials said they expect the issue to take several days to address.
