A few days after Valentine’s Day, the celebration of love was still going strong on Long Island.
More than 100 people with autism and special needs filled the dance floor for a Post-Valentine’s Day party at Family Residences and Essential Enterprises in Old Bethpage. The event brought together friends, families and community members for an evening focused on inclusion, connection and fun.
Organizers say the mission behind the celebration is simple: to make sure everyone has the opportunity to feel included, appreciated, and surrounded by joy. While Valentine’s Day often centers on couples, this event was designed to remind attendees that the holiday is for everyone.
Guests danced, laughed and sang along as the live band Mayhem kept the energy high throughout the night. The group, made up entirely of talented performers with special needs, delivered a lively performance that had the crowd on its feet and showcased the power of representation on stage.
James Hausmann, one of the attendees, summed up the spirit of the evening.
“I’m having a great time. It’s wonderful. I love the band. They’re so awesome and great,” he said.
From the music to the smiles across the room, the post-Valentine’s celebration proved that love, inclusion and community last far beyond just one day on the calendar.
