Police: Surveillance video helps nab would-be gas station robber
An Amity Harbor man is facing an attempted robbery charge after surveillance video of the incident was aired on News 12 Long Island.
Police say Donald Duffey, 18, walked into the Ultra gas station in Lindenhurst earlier this month and asked to use the bathroom. When he came out, he was wielding a knife and asked attendant Erkan Kaymaz to open the register.
“He had a backpack and said, ‘Put the money in the bag,’ and I said ‘No, get out of here. I’m not going to give you money,’” says Kaymaz.
The video shows the attendant then pick up a metal stool and chase the suspect out of the store.
Duffey was arrested after News 12 aired clear surveillance video footage of the incident. He is set to be arraigned today.
