A man has been arrested for breaking into a home in Nassau County and then assaulting an officer at his arraignment.

Fifth Precinct officers responded to a call for a burglary in progress at a Jefferson Street residence in Franklin Square around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

Once on scene, Suhaib Ayman Al Rifai, 32, was found sitting inside the house and was placed into custody without incident.

According to detectives, the 60-year-old female victim’s bedroom window had been shattered and there was various other damage discovered throughout the home.

While at his arraignment at First District Court in Hempstead on Sunday, the undomiciled man headbutted a Nassau County Sheriff’s officer, police say.

He was subsequently transferred to the Third Precinct to be processed for the additional charges.

Al Rifai will be arraigned for burglary and assault when he returns for arraignment at district court on Monday.
