Police: Steven Gonzales, 21, arrested for drunken driving in Northern State crash
A 21-year-old man is accused of drunken driving in a crash that seriously injured his passenger and shut down part of the Northern State Parkway for nearly five hours.
Police say Steven Gonzales was drunk when he crashed his Jeep into an overpass this morning on the eastbound side of the parkway near exit 34.
Gonzales' passenger, 20-year-old Marilyn Acostas Turcios-Velasquez, was thrown from the SUV. She was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center with head and chest trauma and remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Gonzales will be arraigned Friday on numerous charges, including driving while ability impaired by alcohol.
