has learned Monroig was stripped of all her privileges with the American Kennel Club in 2001 due to inaccuracies in her record keeping. She was a breeder who registered litters.
The SPCA says the dogs are mostly purebred Shih Tzus, poodles and Yorkshire Terriers. Whether Monroig was breeding the puppies for profit is still under investigation.
Monroig faces charges of animal cruelty and her home was condemned. The SPCA is preparing the dogs for adoption and has already received more than 600 calls of interest. Those who want more information should call the Suffolk SPCA at 631-382-SPCA.
