The NYPD is asking for the public's assistance to find a man they said robbed a Bronx bodega and attacked an employee.
Police said the man walked into Munchies Deli and Grocery on East 168th Street and Webster Avenue in Morrisania, ordered food but refused to pay for it, then hit an employee multiple times with an object.
News 12 was told the incident happened on Oct. 28 – and, as of Tuesday, the man was still on the loose.
That’s why store customers told News 12 that they do not feel safe giving out their name, but they said they’re not surprised by the attack.
“[In this Morrisania] community around here, there are some very respectful people,” said one man. “Then there are some that are younger adults. They don’t care, they don’t know what respect is. Until they get them off the streets, they’re never going to know what respect is.”
“I didn’t know anything was going on, but this is our neighborhood,” said one woman.
Police said the individual is 30 to 40 years old, about 6 feet tall and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing gray from head to toe and carrying a brown bag.
News 12 was told the victim was a 25-year-old man who was taken to an area hospital in stable condition.
Customers said they want stronger safety measures for bodegas.
“They’re part of the community,” said the woman. “We’re all part of the community.”
“I think they need to have more officers out at night, in certain areas here in the Bronx,” said the man.
If you have any information about the incident, you’re asked to call police.
