Police say an organized theft group used a high-tech operation to break into two Long Island businesses.
Police say a group of six men allegedly cut into the roof of Florique Florist and then cut a hole through the wall of the neighboring Elegant Jewelers last Thursday.
Law enforcement officials say the suspects are part of an organized South American theft group that used high-end equipment and techniques to break in.
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said they used radio jammers that jam the frequency of not only police radios but any other frequencies that are working in that area.
The group left without any merchandise when an unexpected alarm went off, according to Ryder.
The six men were arrested at a home they were staying at in Huntington.
One who had an outstanding warrant was held. The rest were released.
“All of them were told to go down to get a GPS device that goes on your ankle, only three showed up, and by that evening, they all cut them off and dumped them in New Jersey,” said Ryder.
Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman wants the state bail reform laws to change.
“I’m calling on the governor and the state legislature to have a special session to repeal this asinine law," said Blakeman.
News 12 reached out to the governor's office but has not heard back.
