Police officials: NYPD officer, female bystander shot in Queens; suspect killed

Police say it happened at around 6:30 p.m. as officers attempted to apprehend a suspect who was wanted for two gunpoint robberies in the area.

An NYPD officer and a 26-year-old female bystander were shot Tuesday evening in Queens, police officials say.
Police say it happened at around 6:30 p.m. as officers attempted to apprehend a suspect who was wanted for two gunpoint robberies in the area.
Officials say Officer Wong, who works in the 103rd Precinct, was shot in the thigh, and the bystander was shot in the leg.
They say an officer returned fire, killing the shooter.
The shooter has been identified as Gary Worthy, who police say was a career criminal.
Both the officer and bystander are expected to make a full recovery, according to the official.
