A Shirley man was arrested for allegedly posing as a police officer and sexually abusing a high school girl Monday morning.

The 14-year-old girl, who attends William Floyd High School, told investigators that she went to school on Monday morning, but left and went to an abandoned trailer not far from the school. While she sat in the trailer alone, Gary Meenahan, 45, of Shirley, approached her and allegedly identified himself as a police officer. Investigators say he then sexually abused her.

It is unclear exactly how long the teenage girl was held captive by Meenahan, but he released her in time to take the school bus home, police say.

On Thursday, Meenahan was charged with sexual abuse in the third degree, attempted criminal sexual act in the second degree and criminal impersonation in the first degree.

Suffolk County police say that they are still investigating the case and are encouraging any other victims of Meenahan to contact them at 631-852-8752.
