Police say two men have been arrested for stealing cooking oil from eight businesses in Nassau County.
As News 12 has reported, there has been an uptick in cooking oil thefts across Long Island.
Police say they caught Eduardo Gutierrez Benitez and Andres Felipe Duarte Pineda stealing the oil from IHOP on Hillside Avenue in Williston Park on Wednesday.
The pair is also accused of stealing oil from seven other business in Williston Park, Garden City, New Hyde Park and Port Washington.
As News 12 has reported, another man was arrested for stealing cooking oil from the Chick-Fil-A in Huntington Station.
A private investigator tells News 12 that 5,000 restaurants across Long Island have had their cooking oil stolen in the last 10 months.
The oil can be reprocessed and sold on the black market as renewable diesel or biodiesel fuel.
