A Florida man is accused of leading police on a wild chase through several Long Island communities.
Suffolk police say some of the damage he caused - including a broken fence, smashed children's toys and tire marks on several roads - was made while under the influence of drugs and alcohol Wednesday night.
Vito Dileo was pulled over for a traffic violation in Lindenhurst at 7:42 p.m. Officials say when the officer walked back to the police car, Dileo sped off. Investigators say Dileo then caused two hit-and-run crashes involving property damage.
DiLeo ditched his car in West Babylon at the intersection of Roland Drive and Belmont Avenue, according to police. They say he was arrested on Old Farmingdale Road about half a mile away.
The 53-year-old is facing several charges, including possession of crack and driving while impaired. Dileo was also ticked for apparently driving without a license, registration or insurance.
