East Meadow residents say they have been the victims in a number of catalytic converter thefts in recent months.
Nassau County police say there were 10 catalytic converters stolen from East Meadow in July and three so far in August.
Elizabeth McCoy was one of those victims.
"All of a sudden, I hear this noise - it sounded very strange," McCoy says. "So, I ran to the window, my car was parked in front of the house, and there was a white car and as I looked out the window it just pulled out very slowly."
Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder says five catalytic converters were stolen in one night alone in East Meadow, but the thefts are not just happening there.
"We have a white Mercedes and a black Mercedes that are common in a lot of these thefts," Ryder says. "Both of those vehicles we believe are stolen and not carrying proper plates on them because when we check them it doesn't come back to the right vehicle."
Police say there have been over 1,100 catalytic converters stolen across Nassau County so far this year.
