Suffolk County police responded this morning to a multi‑vehicle crash on the Long Island Expressway after a driver suffered an apparent medical episode.

The incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. in the westbound HOV lane near Exit 51 in Dix Hills. According to police, a man driving in the HOV lane experienced a medical event, causing his vehicle to veer left and strike four other vehicles.

The driver and his adult passenger were transported to a local hospital with non‑life‑threatening injuries. No one else involved in the crash was hurt.
