New details are emerging about those enrolled in Nassau County's special deputy program.
Two democratic county lawmakers are challenging the credentials of those participating in it.
According to court documents, the legislators claim five members were in their 70s when they enrolled, which is older than the state's mandatory retirement age for most police officers.
Four participants of the militia-style program have either been arrested or have had arrest warrants issued.
Another person is a member of County Executive Bruce Blakeman’s extended family and works in real estate, court papers show.
Additionally, one individual is a doctor on Blakeman’s transition team.
As News 12 has reported, Legislators Debra Mulé and Scott Davis filed a lawsuit last year to put a stop to the program.
Blakeman has previously said members would only be on standby when needed by the county during an emergency or disaster declaration.
News 12 has reached out to the county executive’s office for comment and are waiting to hear back.
