Patients are concerned about their medical records following the sudden closure of a Wading River medical practice.
A sign announcing the closure was posted on the door of the Family Care Medical Center on Route 25A. The sign included a phone number for patients to call. Some patients told News 12 that the number has been busy. Others who got through say they were prompted to leave a message.
News 12 spoke to Dr. Robert Bernard who sold the practice more than a year ago, but was kept on as an employee of the new practice, Ageless 360. He says he was abruptly fired in an email on New Year's Day.
"I think my patients know me well enough that I would never...abandon them like that," said Dr. Bernard.
An attorney for Ageless 360 says Dr. Bernard was fired for being "a disruptive employee" and blamed him for withholding patient's medical records.
Dr. Bernard's attorney says Ageless 360 could have the electronic records if it pays the outside company that stores them in a database. He says he's anticipating there will be a lawsuit to resolve the matter.
Anyone who would like to learn how to obtain their medical records can visit the state Health Department website.
