A man is accused of robbing a Nassau County business at knifepoint early Saturday morning.
Detectives say Derek Atwater, 45, who is undomiciled, entered the 7-Eleven on Jericho Turnpike in Bellerose Terrace around 5:45 a.m.
Once inside, Atwater approached a 23-year-old male employee with a knife and demanded cigarettes.
When the employee refused to comply, police say the individual took nearly $500 worth of candy from the store before fleeing the scene on foot.
On Monday, detectives observed the man leaving the nearby Dollar Tree on Jericho Turnpike while carrying a bag and being followed by the store manager.
Atwater was being accused of taking merchandise from that store without paying as well, and was subsequently placed under arrest.
An investigation revealed he is also responsible for four other larcenies at the Dollar Tree in August, according to Nassau police.
Atwater will be charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, menacing and petit larceny when he is arraigned at first district court in Hempstead on Tuesday.
