Northwell Health is planning to expand cancer care to underserved, diverse residents in Huntington.

The $50 million expansion includes the opening of a cancer center near Huntington Hospital.

Dr. Richard Barakat, who heads up the Northwell Health Cancer Institute, says caring for minority communities is a top priority.

"Giving access to world-class, cutting-edge cancer care in the local community – bringing it to communities of color and to all minority populations, is something that we are laser focused on and we intend to do.”

Northwell Health says it hopes to have the Huntington cancer center up and running within the next year or two.
