New Hyde Park residents voiced their frustrations with a vacant gas station located in their community at a Town of North Hempstead board meeting on Thursday.
Neighbors learned that Lakeville A.H. Realty bought the property and has plans to put in a new gas station and convenience store.
"I don't want it open late hours attracting kids that might hang out at all hours, maybe selling beer, cigarettes or whatever that can litter the community," says Mike Dieguez.
News 12 has reported that the property has a turbulent history.
Until recently, neighbors say an illegal tow truck operator transported riggs through the area all night.
North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jennifer DeSena says meetings like these are the best way to come to an agreeable solution for everyone involved.
"We give people the chance to give feedback at a hearing like this," DeSena says. "Obviously, there are a lot of people who have concerns."
The discussion will continue at the next town board meeting.
