A Melville teen and his mother saved their neighbor Tuesday morning, using quick thinking and even quicker actions.

The ninth grader was heading out to catch his bus when he noticed flames coming from his neighbor’s home.

The boy sprang into action by alerting his mother, who rushed outside and ran to the house on Leighton Court.

It was a “normal morning,” said the teen’s mother, Natechia Campbell Moss, until he called out to her about the nearby blaze.

"I ran outside, went to her house, basically kicked the door, rang the doorbell, got her out," she said.

The neighbor was able to escape.

The fire broke out just after 6:30 a.m.
