A former Bay Shore teacher has been sentenced up to 50 years in state prison for sex abuse crimes against children.
Thomas Bernagozzi received 25 years in prison with five years post-release supervision for the count of sexual conduct against a child. He will have an indeterminate term with a maximum sentence of 25 years for the count of sodomy that will run consecutively with the first count.
He was sentenced to an indeterminate maximum term of four years and minimum 1 1/3 year for the three counts of possession of a sexual performance of a child that will to run concurrently with each of the other counts.
He was found guilty of the charges in February.
The criminal case involved two victims, who were 4 and 8 years old, when the abuse began.
Bernagozzi worked at Clarkson Elementary and Gardner Manor Elementary from 1970 to 2000.
Dozens more possible victims sued the former teacher in civil court.
