Workers for National Grid will be sporting a new look next time they come to read a neighborhood meter.

The company has issued its workers new uniforms and a new look for its trucks.

National Grid officials say they thought it was important to let customers know about the uniforms because of recent "distraction" burglaries.

Police say there was a rash of nine burglaries last year in Nassau County where two women dressed as utility workers distracted homeowners while stealing jewelry and cash.

If a customer is not sure if a meter reader is legitimate, they should ask for identification. National Grid workers carry a contractor badge featuring their picture and name.

National Grid wants customers to know that future bills will have a different look. The company's website has also been modified.
