Nassau’s 8th police precinct reopens
Nassau County’s 8th police precinct has reopened.
The Levittown precinct will serve Levittown, Bethpage, Farmingdale and Plainview.
On Tuesday, Nassau's 6th precinct reopened in Manhasset.
Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder briefed lawmakers in Mineola last night on the work being done.
Ryder says a department-wide detective shortage will leave the new precincts short staffed, but only temporarily.
The 6th and 8th precincts were closed in 2012 as part of a cost savings measure.
