Nassau students learn tactics at Youth Police Academy
Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder was on hand Saturday during a PAL Youth Police Academy event where students learned what it’s like to train to be a police officer.
The day’s events were designed to help students with special needs and those living in underprivileged areas to establish a positive relationship with police.
Police say the kids learned that communicating with the suspect and not using force will get a more positive response.
Ryder encouraged the students at the one-day academy to reach out for help if they are ever in trouble.
“If you think something bad is going on in your life, talk to somebody,” he said.
Police say the PAL program has inspired the youth pursuit careers as police officers.
