Some help is coming for many Nassau drivers who have outstanding tickets.
The county is rolling out a traffic and parking ticket amnesty program, allowing offenders to pay reduced fines and fees without it affecting their credit.
Under the County Amnesty Program, unpaid parking or traffic tickets issued before 2014 will be granted amnesty on some fines and penalties. The original fine will be cut in half, and penalties and late fees will be dismissed. The violator must still pay the $45 county fee, as well as other fees associated with the ticket.
The program runs from Feb. 22 through May 22. Nassau says eligible violators will receive a call or letter with the reduced ticket amounts.
Nassau County says there are 178,000 unpaid traffic tickets valued at $52.9 million and almost 394,000 parking violations worth $65.7 million.
