Nassau officials say the coronavirus numbers continue to trend down for the region – with only 36 new cases reported in the past 24 hours.
However, Nassau County Executive Laura Curran says food insecurity continues to grow due to the virus.
“Nationwide, there is an estimated 40% of people new to the food insecurity system and we are seeing that on Long Island. I have made it a priority to do everything we can to meet that need,” says Curran.
Nassau announced a partnership with Long Island Cares to open a food distribution center in Long Beach.
Officials say over 10,000 Nassau families have received food since the beginning of the pandemic and they are looking to expand distribution centers to additional areas.
