Police are still trying to track down the motorcyclist who caused a serious chain-reaction crash in Holtsville last week that left a woman paralyzed.
Investigators say the accident happened on Sept. 11 just south of the entrance ramp for the eastbound Long Island Expressway in Holtsville. A motorcyclist slammed into the back of a bus and was thrown from the bike.
Police say the cyclist ran from the scene, leaving the bike in the road and causing many cars to crash.
One of those cars was driven by a 51-year-old single mother named Sofia Ardi. She veered to avoid hitting the bike, but was rear-ended, and emergency responders had to cut her car to get her out.
Ardi, who lost her husband seven years ago to a car accident, is listed in serious condition at Stony Brook University Medical Center. Her family has been told by doctors that she was a 1 percent chance of ever recovering movement from her neck down.
Anyone who has information on the crash is urged to call Suffolk County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS.
