(AP) - Prosecutors have filed additional chargesagainst a New York attorney accused of running a multi-stateadoption scam.
Kevin Cohen was arraigned Wednesday on an indictment accusinghim of grand larceny and other charges involving 13 couples.
Nassau County prosecutors say Cohen promised couples from NewYork, Georgia, Ohio, Texas and Florida that he could arrangeadoptions. In reality, the babies never existed.
They have likened the case to a Ponzi scheme. It's claimed Cohenpartially refunded some disappointed couples with proceeds hecollected from subsequent couples. He is suspected of scamming atleast $300,000.
He's being held on $500,000 bail, which defense attorney MatinEmouna says Cohen can't post. Emouna declined to comment on the specific allegations.
