Ten-year-old Aashi Gupta learned about childhood cancer a few years ago and wanted to do something to help.

“I decided to do this because I felt really bad for all the kids with cancer,” said Aashi Gupta, of Dix Hills. “I want them to also live a like life like us and not to be in the hospital all the time. Probably go to school, play outside with friends.”

Aashi’s dad works at the Sloan Kettering hospital in New York City, and she says she’s heard about how big an impact cancer can have on kids.

They did some research and decided to become a part of the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s Lemonade Days Campaign. The organization has raised more than $300 million for childhood cancer research. Now Aashi is helping further that goal.

Her goal was $500 but she raised $935 dollars to support her cause.

“I’m hoping they can find a cure, feel better, support families and all that,” said Aashi Gupta.

She says she’s happy her friends, family, and community have come out to support.

“It is absolutely heartwarming…” said Gaurav Gupta, Aashi’s dad. “She's my daughter, but I feel as a child she has a very kind heart, feeling for the other kids and trying to help them out. I'm very, very proud of her.”
