Early voting starts for New York primaries; new voting machines debut in Suffolk County

Early voting is now underway for New York's primary elections, giving voters the opportunity to cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.
For voters in Suffolk County, the voting process will look a little different this year. Election officials have introduced new voting machines, replacing the traditional paper-ballot system used in previous elections.
One voter said she found the new process to be faster and easier to use.
"It's definitely quicker. You used to have to color in the little circles for each person," said Arlene Bernhard, of Lindenhurst. "I think this was easier and took less time."
Several races will appear on this year's primary ballot, including both the Democratic and Republican primaries for New York's third Congressional District.
Early voting runs through June 21. Voters are encouraged to check their designated polling locations before heading out.
The primary elections will be held on June 23.
