Residents in Throggs Neck are cleaning up after a brief but powerful storm swept through the neighborhood Saturday, uprooting trees, downing utility lines and blocking roadways.

Along the Cross Bronx Service Road, multiple large trees were torn from the ground, leaving debris scattered across the street and tangled with power and cable lines.

Carmine, a nearby resident who witnessed the storm from his home, said he could see one of the trees swaying violently before it fell.

“This tree was shaking like this,” he said. “I heard some crashing sounds while I was in the house.”

The fallen tree was uprooted completely, leaving behind a large crater where it once stood.

Just down the block, another resident said she narrowly avoided losing her vehicle to the storm. She moved her car off the street shortly before the storm hit, and a tree later fell in the exact spot where it had been parked.

Another downed tree in the neighborhood came within about a foot of striking a parked vehicle.

Con Edison crews were seen in the area assessing damage caused by the storm. News 12 has also reached out to city agencies for information on when the fallen trees will be removed.
