A man is being held in jail Sunday on DWI and other charges after police say he led them on a cat-and-mouse chase.
According to police, Spencer Burton, of Ronkonkoma, ran a red light at Spur Drive North and Broadway around 4 a.m. Saturday. Police say the 32-year-old put the pedal to the metal when cops tried to pull him over.
Minutes later, another pair of officers spotted Burton on Studley Street.
"They tried to stop him numerous times," says Suffolk Detective Sgt. Robert Koerber. "The pursuit went on ? for 15 minutes."
Police later discovered Burton's car flipped upside-down in the woods near Calebs Path, but the suspect had fled on foot. Police say Burton left behind a woman trapped in the back seat.
Officers finally nabbed Burton in front of a house. His charges include DWI, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident.
Burton was wanted for allegedly violating a restraining order his girlfriend had against him. The girlfriend reported recently getting into a fight with Burton.
