(04/21/08) BRENTWOOD ? Suffolk County police say a man violated an order of protection, then tried to ditch cops by climbing up a tree in the Brentwood Country Club.
According to police, 43-year-old Central Islip resident Wayne Gundy violated the order of protection when he went to his ex-girlfriend?s Brentwood home at around 4:45 a.m. Monday. Police got involved when the woman?s 13-year-old daughter hit a panic alarm.
When police arrived on the scene, both Gundy and his ex-girlfriend were missing. The woman was found unharmed in the area following a search.
Investigators say a police helicopter later spotted Gundy, who was unarmed, hiding in a tree at the country club. After three hours of negotiations, Gundy eventually came down and surrendered.
Gundy is charged with criminal contempt and resisting arrest.
