Orchids are a popular houseplant to gift, but if you’re looking to take the hobby to the next level, the annual Long Island Orchid Festival at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay is a great place to start.
They have hundreds of orchids available to purchase ranging from houseplants to rare tropical statement pieces. Orchid lovers have an opportunity to purchase unusual plants from knowledgeable vendors located around the world, but their festival encourages gardeners who can’t keep an orchid alive to visit too.
Orchids have a reputation for being difficult to take care of, but the Long Island Orchid Society wants to make it easy. Experts will hold workshops throughout the weekend to give tips on proper orchid care. You can even bring your struggling orchid plant to the festival for a free repotting session.
The festival is free after admission to Planting Fields from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday June 2 to Sunday June 4.
