During this period, any driver who passes a stopped school bus will get a warning letter in the mail about the violation. The goal is to protect students from motorists driving illegally.

The warning period will run until the program goes live on Aug. 6.

Stop-arm cameras are already being used in the Town of Hempstead and across Suffolk County.
