A motorcycle crash Thursday morning in Lindenhurst left a 15-year-old hospitalized in critical condition, according to police.

Authorities say the teen was riding on East John Street when he lost control and struck a pole around 1:30 a.m.

Neighbors tell News 12 their block on East John Street is no stranger to accidents.

Chris Beckhans, president of Long Island American Bikers for Awareness, Training and Education (ABATE), says the crash serves as a tragic reminder of why it’s important to exercise caution when using a motorcycle.

"More motorcycles are out there. School's out. There's a lot more people on the road. So, you have to be more diligent. Take your time,” he said. "You have to know your machine. You have to know what you're doing. You have to be aware physically, mentally of what your abilities are."

Anyone with additional information about the crash is urged to call police.
