Local leaders and voting advocates are hoping to encourage early voting in Brownsville as they see some low turnout in the area.
More than a million people have cast their ballots so far, and Brooklyn has seen the highest number of voter check-ins daily, according to the Board of Elections.
In Brownsville, local leaders and community organizers say early voting turnout is about 30% lower than other parts of the district.
They are hoping to get the word out about early voting in hopes to change that.
Brownsville was one of the neighborhoods that was hit the hardest during the coronavirus pandemic.
Sen. Zellnor Myrie says the long-term effects of the pandemic are just another reason why people should use their votes to create change.
"We have been devastated by this pandemic. People are looking for jobs, educational opportunities. All of that is tied directly to our vote and it's why it's incredibly, incredibly important that people utilize their constitutional right to have their say in their democracy,” said Myrie.
