In an effort to save money, the New York State Department of Parks will be closing some parks and pools across the state this summer.
Jones Beach is expected to be hit hard as park officials say they will close all West End beaches and shut down the swimming pool at the East Bathhouse. It is estimated nearly 10,000 use the pool each weekend.
In addition, Field 1 at Jones Beach will only be opened during each of the three major summer holidays.Other parks facing a reduction in hours or days are Caleb Smith State Park Preserve in Smithtown, the swimming pool at Heckscher State Park and the Hempstead Lake State Park Carousel. Officials from the Department of Parks say they hope to save $1.6 million.
