Tenants at a Hempstead apartment building are blaming contract workers for flooding their homes.
Residents at 251 Jackson St. say Saturday's torrential downpour caused water damage to the building's apartments. Tenants say workers had been repairing the building's roof and failed to cover it with a tarp. They also feel building management let them down by allowing it to happen.
"I'm very disgusted and annoyed," says tenant Bill Dixon. "I feel that management didn't address our concerns properly. We're being told that it's not their fault, but the way I see it you should be an advocate for your tenants."
Cynthia Taylor, who also lives in the building, wants someone to step up and take responsibility for the damage.
"We want something done about this, and obviously there's a lot of damage in everybody's apartment," says Taylor. "Somebody's going to have to pay for this."
