A glitch is being blamed for keeping stimulus payments out of millions of Americans' bank accounts.
According to officials, people who used tax preparation companies' 'anticipated refund check' or paid for tax prep fees with their anticipated refund may see delays. That's because in those cases, the IRS doesn't have proper bank account numbers for a direct deposit.

Others got the wrong amount, including couples who didn't get the $500 check for their children.

The IRS says it processed more than 80 million payments so far, more than half of the overall number expected to go out.

If the IRS doesn't have a taxpayer's direct deposit information, it'll start mailing out paper checks the week of May 4.

Tax experts say if you've moved recently and will be receiving a paper check to make sure a change of address has been filed.
The IRS says the "Get My Payment" site is operating effectively. It adds that as of midday Friday, more than 6 million taxpayers have successfully checked their payment status, and 1 million people have updated their information online.
