Residents voted Tuesday against a proposal to renovate the Garden City Park Fire Station.
The fire district was looking to use reserve funds and taxpayer dollars to build a new firehouse on Denton Avenue. Officials say the renovation would have improved response times.
Neighbors voted 251-74 against the renovations
The district estimated a tax increase of $47 annually per home.
The fire district’s commissioner released a statement saying in part, “We are disappointed that the community did not support the brave men and women of the fire department who put their lives on the line to protect them and their property.”
