A groundbreaking ceremony was held Saturday for the Friends of Islip Town Firefighters Museum.
According to its website, the museum's mission is a commitment to the historical preservation of fire departments, public safety education and firefighter safety programs.
Organizers have raised $600,000 for the museum's construction.
The museum is set to open in the fall.
