Nassau County Fire Marshal Chief Michael Uttaro has confirmed that the Nassau County Fire Marshal's Office, the Nassau County Detective Arson Bomb Squad and the NYPD are investigating a fire that occurred on Friday in East Meadow.

"The top of the house, the bottom of the house, the flames were massive," says East Meadow resident Nina Pistone.

The Fire Marshal's Office says that the house on Maitland Street was empty at the time of the fire. Nassau police have stated that all the house's occupants were evacuated at the time.

"I saw that it was getting going, it was really super intense," says Dennis Hart, who lives in East Meadow.

News 12 has learned that the fire was at the home of NYPD Officer Javier Rodriguez.

An NYPD spokesperson confirmed the incident is under internal investigation. The spokesperson stated that Rodriguez's duty status is modified.

The East Meadow Fire Department took the call for a house on fire at 11:47 p.m. When responders arrived, they saw a two-story house engulfed in flames.

The fire was brought under control by numerous fire departments within 45 minutes. A firefighter suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to a hospital for evaluation and treatment, according to police.

The Fire Marshal's Office reported no other injuries.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
