The father of a Sayville teen who died in a car accident late Tuesday night warned young drivers about the consequences of horsing around on the road.
Police say 17-year-old William Raimo was killed after the car he was a passenger in crashed into a tree. They say the driver of the car, 17-year-old Lauren Ferrara, tried to pass two high school classmates in a car ahead of them. According to police, Ferrara drove into oncoming traffic on Handsome Avenue near Maple Street in Sayville before hitting the lead car and spinning out of control.
Raimo's father is devastated by the loss of his young son. He stresses that a car is not a toy and driving should not be taken lightly. Police are unsure if the cars were drag racing. Ferrara remains in stable condition, but has not been questioned by police because she is unconscious.
