Nassau police increase patrols as Knicks fans pack watch parties
Nassau County police said they are increasing patrols around watch parties they are aware of to help ensure fans can celebrate safely.

The New York Knicks’ playoff run is giving Long Island fans a reason to gather and local businesses a welcome midweek boost. At Taproom in Farmingdale, excitement surrounding the Knicks has translated into packed watch parties and larger crowds than usual.
“We probably see twice as many people as we would normally see,” said Phil Smith, marketing director for Taproom. “Obviously the weekends are going to be mobbed anyway, and it just really puts it over the top.”
Fans arriving ahead of the game expected a lively atmosphere.
“A mob scene,” one fan said when asked what they anticipated.
The increased excitement has also caught the attention of law enforcement. Nassau County police said they are increasing patrols around watch parties they are aware of to help ensure fans can celebrate safely.
“It should be good, I think, why not? Extra police presence. Fans are definitely going to be rowdy,” another fan said.
Whether they’re watching at Taproom or elsewhere across Long Island, Smith said the Knicks’ postseason success has brought people together while helping businesses on nights that are typically slower.
“As a New York fan, we’re rooting for the Knicks in four,” Smith said. “And as a business, we hope it goes to seven and they win.”
For restaurants and bars across the region, the Knicks’ playoff run has proven to be a win both on and off the court.
