Family and friends gathered today to remember the Farmingdale State College professor killed by her own son.
Joint wake services were held for Patricia Ward and her son, Derek Ward.
Police say Derek Ward beheaded his mother last Tuesday, then jumped in front of a Long Island Rail Road train.
Family members say he was suffering from severe mental illness.
Funeral services for the Wards will be held Tuesday.
