Nassau Executive Tom Suozzi says the county lost $40 million in sales tax revenue last year.
According to Suozzi, proposals to make up for the shortfall include cutting jobs, shutting down government programs and closing parks.
?I can?t emphasize how serious these sales tax numbers are,? he says. ?I don?t think anyone could have expected a 34 percent decrease for sales tax this period.?
Suozzi is calling for an emergency session with the Legislature to create an emergency plan. He says he is not considering raising property taxes.
