A bald eagle was nursed back to health and released Wednesday after being found on Route 112 in Medford.
The eagle, who was given the name Liberty, was found on Jan. 18. It was taken to Sweetbriar Nature Center for treatment.
The center's director says that the eagle had an old eye injury and that it had also been hit by the sideview mirror of a truck.
After caring for Liberty for almost a week, the Sweetbriar Nature Center found that the eagle was ready to hunt and eat on its own.
The eagle has been tagged by the Department of Environmental Conservation so its migration pattern and lifespan could be followed.
