Suffolk police say they arrested a man for driving while ability impaired by drugs in a car crash that seriously injured a bicyclist in Central Islip Sunday evening.
Eryk McPherson, 19, of Brentwood, was riding a bicycle westbound across Joshuas Path at Vanderbilt Avenue when he was struck by a 2012 Honda sedan traveling southbound on Joshuas Path around 7:30 p.m., according to police.
McPherson was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore for treatment of serious injuries.
The Honda driver, 21-year-old David Alfaro, of Central Islip, was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check.
