Our very cold week continues on the Island with tonight setting up to be one of the coldest this year. Skies will remain cloudy with some snow likely for eastern Long Island. Minor accumulations are possible for the East End.
Otherwise, the rest of Long island will have a quiet, but extremely cold night. Temperatures on the surface will be near 10 degrees, if not in the single digits. Feel-like temperatures will be near 0 degrees and below through Wednesday morning.
This is set to be one of the coldest mornings for Long Island, so be sure to layer up, limit being outdoors for an extended period of time if possible and stay warm. The rest of the day will have slight improvements in the afternoon with skies being mostly sunny and light winds.
The rest of the week, winds will remain light thankfully, keeping wind chill values from being too extreme Thursday and Friday. We remain dry as a high-pressure system is poised to keep things stable and quiet into the weekend.
Temperatures are expected to rebound to seasonable, making for much more manageable cold weather.
FORECAST:
OVERNIGHT: Mostly cloudy, with a few snow showers on the East End. Mainly dry for the rest of the Island. Still very cold, wind chill values from 5 degrees to -5 degrees. Lows in the single digits to near 10 degrees.
WEDNESDAY: Mostly sunny, light winds, still very cold, especially in the morning. Highs in the low-20s. Lows in the teens. Wind chills during the day will be in the single digits to the teens.
THURSDAY: Mostly sunny, light winds and much more manageable cold. Highs in the low-30s. Lows in the upper-teens.
FRIDAY: Very similar to Thursday, manageable cold with sunshine. Highs in the low-30s. Lows in the mid-teens.
THE WEEKEND: Gradual warmup on the weekend, Saturday still hovering in the low-30s, sunshine and clouds mixing, but quiet and dry. Sunday, milder as temperatures reach nearly 40 degrees. Winds are expected to not be very high this weekend so wind chills will not be much of an issue.
